Green Farm Norfolk Horns

The Elsing Flock of Norfolk Horns was started in 2007 with the aim of producing extensively reared high welfare quality lamb and mutton from an indigenous rare breed. The flock extensively grazes pastures on our farm in Elsing, in the Breckland District of Norfolk.

From humble beginnings with a first purchase of eight breeding ewes and a ram. This number has gradually increased to current numbers of circa 160 breeding ewes the majority of which are home bred. Whilst the flock is still in its infancy, judging by the feedback we have received to date, we have succeeded in the aim of producing a quality product and we continue to expand the flock by breeding our own replacements.

The primary product generated from farming the Elsing Flock is our Boxed Lamb and Mutton. We've already had a great deal of interest and positive feedback regarding the flavour of our meat and are grateful for all the local support. We are thrilled that a growing number of locals are making the decision to buy local. After all you couldn’t get a more local breed of sheep than one which has been born and reared in its native county!

At Green Farm we are keen to reduce our carbon footprint and food miles. Once our lambs reach maturity they are transported less than 9 miles to our local abattoir, thus keeping stress to a minimum and less stress makes for more tender, better tasting meat. The carcases are then transported to our butcher less than 3 miles from the abattoir and then returned to us. The short distances involved keep food miles to a minimum and minimise our carbon footprint.

“The lamb was fantastic! Amazing flavour and I love that it's British!”
Catherine Scott, London

In addition to the sale of boxed lamb and mutton we also generate a healthy supply of fleeces. These can be bought from us direct and are suitable for spinning wool. Customers have also used the wool to stuff dog beds, soft toys and to lay on the earth on the vegetable patch to defend plants from slugs! Wool acts as a wonderful natural repellent to slugs which dislike crawling over it! Please contact the farm office for availability.

We are committed to breeding our own pedigree replacements where possible to expand the flock and occasionally we have breeding stock which is surplus to requirements. Please contact the farm office for further information.
